What is SEO | Search Engine Optimization

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the art or study of increasing a website’s traffic through natural (or organic) search engine listings.  In other words, SEO is an attempt to appeal to any or all search engines to create high rankings for specific or sometimes general keyword phrases (a group of words that indicate interest in a particular industry or product).  Search Engines use advanced algorithms they hold in secret, to determine the order of the website listings on each internet search.  Because these algorithms are “top secret” there are a number of SEO theories that do not work.  In order to approach SEO with any level of success we must be familiar with how search engines spider a page and what attributes of a page will effect its position in the SERP (Search Engine Results Page).

I have separated "on page" SEO into two basic categories, content, site structure.  Because search engines can only use text (content) and popularity (which I will explain shortly) to index a page, the use of unique content and well placed keyword phrases is absolutely crucial.  The manner in which the content is presented to the search engines (site structure) is equally important.  If the search engine spider has to sift through heaps of code to find the content the chance of quality positioning is dangerously low!

The popularity of a site refers to the number of sites that have outbound links to the site.  Search Engines, especially Google have developed a system which will calculated the number of inbound links a site has and will take the results in account when indexing sites.  Inbound links can be created through link campaigns, which is considered "off page" SEO.  Although, there are other forms of off page SEO, link campaigns are one of the few that are considered ethical.  They are also the only off page SEO service we offer.
